Zuoz, Switzerland Hiking Tour

Italian Spice –

If you like Swiss with a dash of Italian spice, you’ll love Zuoz. Located near the Italian and Austrian borders, this small alpine town of 1,400 stands as one of the best-preserved villages of the Upper Engadine valley. Founded in 800 A.D. and rebuilt in the 1500s, Zuoz boasts cobblestone streets, an elegant town center, and traditional Engadine houses, featuring thick, stone walls, recessed windows, and pastel-colored murals. Noteworthy points of interest worth a visit include the San Luzum church, San Bastiaun chapel, the village tower, and Planta houses.

The inn where guests of Alpine Adventures Trails Tours stay is situated in the center of town, and has been owned by the same family since it opened 125 years ago. The four-star hotel is renowned for its culinary offerings, old-world charm, and modern conveniences.

Zuoz abuts Switzerland National Park, the country’s only national park and one of the first in Europe. The park’s 80 kilometers (50 miles) of trails, plus the 300 additional kilometers (186 miles) in the surrounding area offer plenty of spectacular hiking opportunities that reveal why this country of endless beauty chose the Upper Engadine for its only national park.
