Accommodations
Forty years of organizing and leading hikers in the rugged, pristine Alps has taught us that hiking is just one part of the journey. Accommodations are just as important. To make your visit to the Alps as comfortable as possible, we have selected family-owned and operated inns, each with its own unique charm. All of our selected inns in Switzerland and Austria are three and four-star rated, and offer private baths, superior European cuisine, and friendly staff. We take great pride in our selection of accommodations and have built long-lasting relationships with the owners of our inns.
Things to Do When You Are Not Hiking
Each week of a tour has scheduled free time when we do not hike, allowing you the opportunity explore on your own. Tours lasting six nights have one free day; 12-night tours offer two free days. Switzerland and Austria both have great public transportation systems. Trains, buses, cable cars, and boats make it easy and convenient to travel to areas we do not visit as a group. Upon registration, you will receive information on things to see and do, and we will gladly assist with free-day plans before and during your trip.
Each guest on our Switzerland hiking trips receives either a Swiss Rail Pass or a 30-Day Half Fare Card depending on the trip. The Half Fare Card provides a 50% discount on trains, buses, boats and cable cars. The Swiss Rail Pass allows unlimited travel on Swiss public trains, buses, and boats. The pass is also valid for discounts on many gondolas and cable cars, and admission to museums. In Austria, guests receive local travel cards that allow free travel on local trains, buses, and cable cars. For guests who will remain in Switzerland or Austria before or after their hiking tour, we can extend the duration of the pass at a greatly reduced price.
